Your young pal's vaccination schedule: what goes when?
Vaccines are one of the most important steps toward a healthy start for a kitten or puppy. Here's a general roadmap — but the exact schedule should always be set with your veterinarian.
The basic schedule for dogs
Combo vaccines usually begin at 6–8 weeks and are repeated every few weeks. The rabies shot is given after week 12 in most regions. Annual boosters follow. Extra vaccines such as kennel cough may be recommended depending on lifestyle.
The basic schedule for cats
The combo vaccine (feline flu + panleukopenia) typically starts at 8–9 weeks and is repeated. The rabies shot, again, is given after week 12. For outdoor cats, the feline leukemia (FeLV) vaccine may be recommended. Internal and external parasite protection is planned alongside the vaccines.
