The ideal walk duration for your dog's age
No two dogs walk at the same pace. Age, breed, and energy level determine the right duration. Here's a general roadmap — but the best guide is your dog itself.
General pacing by age
pets
Puppy (2–6 months)
Short and frequent: 5–15 min several times a day. Their joints are delicate — don't overdo it.

Adult (1–7 years)
30–60 min a day, more depending on the breed. High-energy breeds love a run or playtime.

Senior (7+ years)
Short and gentle pace: 15–20 min twice a day. Frequent breaks, flat ground.
Watch your dog
Excessive panting, lagging behind, or refusing to walk means “that's enough.” In hot weather, shift walks to early morning and the cool of the evening; check the asphalt temperature with your hand. A consistent routine is the best investment in weight control and a happy mood.
Short on time?
Pick a duration with certified walkers and set up a weekly plan; route and photo reports right on your phone.
